Judy Bishop moved the motion and John Smith seconded; President Kevin Searcy called for discussion before the board approved the measure with all present members voting yes (Hortman, King, Bishop, Franklin, Searcy, Smith). Monty Huffman was listed as absent in the meeting record.
Board member Elizabeth King described the arrangement as a transition tool, saying, "this is a process that is a method used for a smooth transition for the community, the board, and the district." The motion delegated authority to Board President Kevin Searcy to negotiate a Superintendent Emeritus Agreement with Dr. Kaufman, which the board will consider for final approval once an agreement is executed. The agreement, as stated in the motion, is intended to have Dr. Kaufman assist the district in hiring and supporting the superintendent transition.
