Public Works Director Duane Ackerbloom told the commission the drainage system for Northeast 21st Avenue and Northeast 38th Street is over 60 years old, installed in short riveted sections and now showing breaks that cause potholes and road depressions. He recommended awarding the project to JD Backhoe Inc. following the RFP and selection process.
Ackerbloom said the project cost is $384,338.28 with a 10% contingency ($38,433.83) and noted the work was included in the fiscal-year stormwater budget. Commissioners moved and approved Resolution 2025-2663 to award the contract; the motion passed unanimously 5-0. The director said work will target failing pipe sections and previous temporary patches will be replaced with a more durable installation.
