Members debated whether the liaison should be a paid staff position, an appointed commissioner, or an external volunteer through the chamber. Patty and others said a single point-of-contact would be more useful than a committee for prospective businesses, but they also warned about the fiscal commitment of a paid position and about conflict-of-interest concerns if elected officials serve in that capacity.
The committee agreed to include the options in the draft report and to present different variations to the Commission — in-house staff, an out-of-house volunteer, or leveraging existing partners such as the regional chamber — rather than immediately endorsing a new hire.
