EDC votes to forward strategic-plan recommendation to city commission

The Lighthouse Point Economic Development Committee voted to include a recommendation asking the City Commission to create a strategic plan that would engage residents, establish core values and list actions and projects tied to economic-development goals. A committee member formally moved to forward the recommendation and the motion passed by voice vote.

The plan recommendation calls for a community-engagement process, the definition of strategic core values and an implementation list that would, among other things, prioritize capital projects based on economic impact. Dave Dixon, the committee presenter, said the draft report packages the committee's findings and that the first three actions would be transmitted now while the remainder would be completed at later meetings. "So what we did is, you know, we reviewed the lighthouse point plan that presented to you in a couple different chunks," Dixon said, summarizing the committee's review and intent to bundle survey and market-analysis results into a final report.

City Attorney Hernandez explained the process for formalizing recommendations: the committee compiles findings, votes to adopt recommendations and then the clerk and planner submit a report to the commission for consideration. The committee directed staff to include the adopted strategic-plan recommendation in the report to the commission and requested that supporting materials be distributed ahead of the next meeting.
