Deputy Summer Davis briefed the Calhoun County Schools board on the district's recent Cognia engagement review, describing the process and her team's findings.
"The Cognia accreditation is a prestigious research based global seal of quality for K–12 schools and districts," Davis told the board as she outlined the self-assessment process that covers 31 standards and a six‑year engagement cycle. She said the district submitted its evidence portfolio in January ahead of a virtual visit on Feb. 9.
Davis summarized stakeholder survey results and student-performance data, saying the district showed gains in graduation rate, College and Career Readiness measures, math and ELA proficiency, and reduced chronic absenteeism, while acknowledging gaps for students with disabilities and economically disadvantaged learners. She added that the review team rated some self-assessed areas higher than the district had rated itself.
Davis said the review team provided two targeted improvement areas and that the district's official engagement review report should arrive in about 30 to 45 days. Board members and the superintendent thanked staff for compiling evidence and coordinating the review.
The presentation outlined next steps including midyear progress cycles tied to the district strategic plan and continuing efforts on digital learning and progress monitoring.
