Calhoun County students recognized for Career and Technical Education month

Calhoun County Schools honored Career and Technical Education Month Feb. 19 with student presentations and a proclamation; district leaders highlighted CTE pathways, recent program grants and student competition results.
The Calhoun County Schools board opened its Feb. 19 meeting with recognitions for Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, featuring student leaders from several high schools and a district proclamation signed by Superintendent Tony Willis.
Caitlin Dumar, central district vice president for the Alabama FFA Association and a Weaver High School student, told the board, "CTE programs are for students and leading students to success by combining academics with hands on real life learning." Dumar highlighted pathways including health care, agriculture and skilled trades and urged continued community support for CTE programs.
Tristan Brown, state parliamentarian for SkillsUSA from White Plains High School, reviewed recent accomplishments across district programs, noting a new greenhouse at Saks High School, a renovated welding lab at CCCA and district students placing in state and national contests. Kate Yoakam of Pleasant Valley FFA read a proclamation designating February as Career and Technical Education Month in Calhoun County; Superintendent Tony Willis signed the proclamation dated Feb. 19.
The recognitions emphasized workforce pathways and the role of CTSOs (career and technical student organizations) in leadership development. Board members and district leaders thanked students and CTE staff for program accomplishments and said they would take a group photo following the meeting.
