Engineer details multiple NJDOT grants and road projects; change orders approved for Leonardine Avenue work

Borough Engineer Justin Cornell reported several NJDOT and local-aid awards and project updates during the June 29 meeting. Grants noted in the engineer’s report include a $681,405 award for Leonardine Avenue and related segments, a $606,980 award for Darrow, Dailey and John Streets, a $575,000 award for Albourne/Franklin/Olchaskey streets, and a $506,913 FY2025 award including Prentice, Tice and Cleveland avenues. Preconstruction meetings are complete for several jobs and work is either under way or in closeout steps.
Engineer Cornell also advised that the borough approved Change Order #3 (a contract quantity decrease of $4,967.45) and Change Order #4 (additional concrete work increasing the contract by $47,435.00) for the JADS Construction project covering Leonardine Avenue, Beryl Street, Dailey Street, Darrow Street, John Street and various parks. "Councilman Donato would like to know what the total amount of the project was and Borough Engineer Cornell states it was a little over two million," the minutes record. Payment of the change orders is subject to NJDOT approval if required.
Cornell added that survey and design work is progressing on other awarded grants, and the borough has submitted an FY2027 application for additional roadway and bike-path improvements, with an environmental wetland delineation in progress near the Veteran’s Drive parking lot to evaluate parking-lot expansion feasibility.
