The Brightwaters board approved a $7,500 payment to Always Electric to abandon and remove five breakaway lampposts on Howells Road.
Mayor (S1) explained the village repeatedly paid to replace the breakaway poles after they were struck by vehicles, noting replacements cost about $6,000–$7,000 per pole. To avoid ongoing replacement costs and repeated outages, the village authorized removal and abandonment work; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The mayor said nearby businesses, including an Exxon station and a deli, were expected to clean up and improve adjacent property after the work. The board framed the action as a cost-saving measure to reduce recurring expenditures on failed poles.
