After storm activation, St. Stephen council reviews siren criteria and paging lapse

Frank brought Stearns County's recommended criteria for sounding outdoor warning sirens to the council July 2, explaining that municipalities are responsible for activating their own sirens or requesting activation through county dispatch and that the county will activate sirens for municipalities under specified conditions (severe hail/70 mph winds, tornado warning, storm within 10 miles and approaching, or county-notified absence of municipal activation).
Councilmembers were told that sirens did sound during a recent storm but the fire department was not paged as it should have been; Frank reported that he contacted the Stearns County Emergency Management Director and the county said it will look into paging procedures to ensure the fire department is notified in these situations. The meeting also noted the standby generator at the hall is working and is cycled every two weeks.
