Fire chief requests hydrant maintenance, radio review after brush fire

Glenn Stacy, representing the fire department, presented drawings and material-cost estimates and urged regular hydrant maintenance. He said some hydrants were "cleaned and painted white," and recommended repainting them red and applying reflective tape; the council agreed to repaint existing white hydrants red and use reflective tape for winter visibility.
Stacy described equipment and communications needs, noting the trucks have two LS Harris 800 MHz radios each and said, "I think it'd be wise for us as a city council to go to the fire station at some point and see what's there." He also described a recent brush fire and a truck modification in progress: "I really need to set up a switch. So when I put it in reverse, the lights come on in the back." The board set a plan to visit the station before the Aug. 6 meeting to assess needs and priorities for pumps, radios and portable equipment.
