Council approves Class GA liquor license for Phoenix Flame after postponement motion fails

The Rolling Meadows City Council voted 4–3 on May 12 to adopt Ordinance No. 26-19, which amends the alcoholic liquor code to grant a Class GA liquor license for video gaming to Dimchev Restaurants Inc., d/b/a Phoenix Flame at 3240 Kirchoff Road.
Alderperson Vinezeano moved to postpone consideration of the ordinance until after the May 16 Committee of the Whole discussion of gaming licenses; Alderperson Boucher seconded the postponement motion. Alderperson Budmats argued postponing would be unfair because the application had been "in the pipeline," and Alderperson Koehler said he opposed postponement. The motion to postpone failed 5–2 on roll call (ayes Vinezeano and Boucher). The council then voted on the ordinance itself; the final roll call was 4 in favor (Reyez, Koehler, McHale, Budmats) and 3 opposed (Boucher, O’Brien, Vinezeano), and the ordinance was adopted.
Vinezeano explained her vote was based on resident input saying they did "not want the Kirchoff Road corridor to end up looking like Las Vegas," a concern she said guided her opposition to moving forward before the Committee of the Whole discussion.
