In committee and commission reports council members updated colleagues on ongoing work related to tree removal and wildfire safety on Highway 9. Staff and council members said a county representative and state legislators have been contacted and that a state senator has become involved, which may give the effort additional traction with Caltrans and state budgeting authorities.
Council members emphasized evacuation risk if Highway 9 becomes impassable during wildfires and discussed preparing a resolution to send to state legislators and the county board of supervisors. One council member said the issue is urgent because “Highway 9 is the only artery” for affected neighborhoods and urged coordinated action and outreach through the cities association.
