The City Council and Site and Architectural Commission held a joint study session on June 27 to review the public‑review draft of the Health & Safety Element of Monte Sereno's general plan. Consultant Jeff Bradley of Metropolitan Planning Group gave the presentation and emphasized the update responds to recent state requirements and addresses wildfire, evacuation routes, seismic and flood hazards and climate risk. "The number 1 thing that people were concerned about was evacuation routes," Bradley said during the presentation.
Council and commission members asked detailed questions about the draft maps, the scope of required geotechnical studies, and how the plan will coordinate with neighboring jurisdictions and state agencies such as Caltrans. Vice Mayor Elahi and other members repeatedly urged that the plan treat evacuation as a regional problem because Monte Sereno's primary routes rely on neighboring cities and state routes during peak beach‑traffic periods.
The meeting produced no motions or votes; the mayor closed the public comment period after no members of the public were present to speak. Staff and the consultant plan to send the draft to required agencies for review and to return an adoption draft to the council in the fall.
