Council approves $150-per-parcel police protection parcel tax for 2025–26
Summary
Council adopted a resolution authorizing Santa Clara County to collect a $150-per-parcel police protection parcel tax for fiscal year 2025–26, reversing an earlier clerical error that had been billed as $15 per parcel in prior years. Staff said collection will proceed under the approved resolution.

Staff reminded the council that voters approved a parcel tax for police services in 1983 and that the city adopted an ordinance (NS-22) authorizing the county to collect the $150 per-parcel levy. Staff recommended adoption of the annual resolution requesting that the county collect the $150 parcel tax for fiscal year 2025–26.
A council member noted past clerical errors that had caused the levy to be incorrectly listed as $15 per parcel in prior submissions; the city clerk acknowledged a template typo and said she took responsibility for the error and that staff would add additional review steps and copy the mayor on county submissions. After brief discussion and a roll-call vote, the council approved the resolution authorizing collection of the $150 parcel tax; the mayor announced, “Motion carries.”
