Contractor reports ammonia exceedance, maintenance backlog in Lumberport water and wastewater systems

Quality Water Services told the Lumberport council it has submitted routine February water and wastewater samples but reported an ammonia-nitrogen exceedance in wastewater and multiple maintenance needs, including lagoon mixer repairs and a stalled pump-part replacement for a high-service pump.
Quality Water Services presented its March monthly status report and told the Lumberport Town Council that February drinking-water compliance samples and the monthly operational report were submitted without issue but that wastewater testing showed an "exceedance on ammonia nitrogen." The contractor said it increased dosage of the chemical Biojet 7 and plans to re-sample in the second week of March to confirm whether levels have returned to compliance.
The QWS report detailed several outstanding maintenance items that could affect operations: the contractor said replacement parts for high-service pump #2 could not be sourced and recommended council direction on next steps; two lagoon mixers require starter replacements and another mixer needs a new motor; missing power-box safety switches for upper-lagoon aeration remain to be replaced. QWS also noted an outstanding paperwork issue from an August chlorine-and-turbidity matter and said it would draft a public notice before Oct. 15, 2025. The firm reported that backflow-prevention outreach had produced a 23% customer response rate as of Feb. 28, 2025.
