Lumberport council weighs Tier 2 water notice, ongoing leaks

At the Dec. 2, 2024 Lumberport Town Council meeting, council members received an update on water and sewer operations, including a Tier 2 notice that officials said needs to be made available to the public.
Allen Westfall of QualityWater said he "reached out to the health dept in regards to a tier 2 violation letter that needs to be viewed by the public," and that paperwork problems have delayed notification. Westfall also reported on a leak flagged by resident Bill Keener and said technicians believe the flow is runoff in an area where a repair was recently completed; he said the location "will be watched closely." The council voted to accept the water/sewer report (motion carried).
Public Works supervisor Bill Davisson told the council crews found and fixed several leaks. Davisson said water continuing to run down Jones Run is caused by an earlier repair that was not completed properly and that the Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for the new repair work. The council accepted the public-works report on a majority motion.
Council members did not take additional binding action on repairs at the meeting but recorded that the DOH would be involved for the Jones Run repair and that staff will monitor the suspected runoff leak.
