Mayor highlights Pinefield road-diet plantings and merchants’ holiday efforts

At the opening of the Dec. 9 meeting the Mayor gave a short report focused on downtown streetscape and holiday activity. The Mayor described a plan to narrow the Pinefield Road intersection with plantings — calling the change a 'road diet' — as an effort to slow traffic and add permeable surface where there had been impermeable pavement.
"So we're doing what they call now the fancy name is a road diet where you tighten the roads so cars have to go slower and those empty markings are actually gonna be planting," the Mayor said. The Mayor also noted coordinated work with the chamber of commerce and merchants to remove long-standing outdoor dining sheds and to support holiday events — including a tree lighting, Santa visit and menorah lighting on Dec. 26 at Leonard Marange Park at 6 p.m.
The Mayor urged residents to shop locally for the holiday period and reminded attendees the next board meeting will be Jan. 13, 2025.
