Bronxville tightens erosion and stormwater rules; new plans required for larger disturbances

The Bronxville Board of Trustees voted Dec. 9 to adopt a revised erosion and sediment control and stormwater-management policy that tightens local standards for property work that affects drainage and neighboring properties.
Staff explained the two principal changes: any soil-disturbing work over 1,000 square feet will now require a sediment and erosion control plan, and changes in lot coverage above 100 square feet will require a stormwater-management plan prepared by a professional engineer or landscape architect. "For the erosion and sediment controls, for any area of disturbance over, soil disturbance over 1000 square feet, this policy will require that property owners, contractors have a sediment erosion control plan," the Staff member said.
The policy aligns with the village’s MS4 obligations and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation guidance while reflecting smaller lot sizes in Westchester. Staff said the rules aim to prevent dirt and debris from running onto neighbors’ properties or into village catch basins; the village will amend the relevant chapter of its code to reflect the new policy.
