Bronxville trustees approve grant-funded cameras for Craft Avenue and West Side circle

The Bronxville Board of Trustees voted Dec. 9 to use technology-grant funds to buy and upgrade security cameras covering Craft Avenue at Cedar, the Craft Avenue parking lot and the West Side Traffic Circle. The board cited a mix of replacement and new equipment and approved a quoted purchase of $12,033.15.
"And that's $12,033.15," the Mayor said when presenting the camera quote. Staff described the work as a combination of upgrades for aging equipment and a new point-to-point connection to allow faster, more efficient access to camera data.
Trustees also discussed limits on automated speed-enforcement tools. The Mayor said New York State law currently restricts automated speed enforcement to cities, noting that Westchester villages lack that authority without specific state or home-rule changes. "The New York State doesn't allow us. They allow cities only," the Mayor said, explaining why the village is focusing on collecting data rather than installing speed cameras now.
The motion to authorize the purchase using grant funds passed by voice vote. Staff said the overall technology grant originally totaled “over a 100,000” and that they would provide an exact remaining balance later.
