The Salt Lake City Council adopted a joint ceremonial resolution declaring June 2026 Immigrant Heritage Month. Councilmember Petro read the resolution, noting the observance honors immigrants' contributions to the city and country. A motion to adopt the resolution was made and carried unanimously.
Representatives from immigrant organizations addressed the council after the vote. A representative from the Utah Immigrant Advocacy Coalition thanked the council for the resolution and said it "means a lot" because it signals the city is "not only welcoming in words, but welcoming in action." Luis Camamanuel, who identified himself as vice president of the Utah Consular Corps and honorary consul of Portugal, also spoke in support and described the consular corps' work with diaspora communities.
