The Morristown Regional Planning Commission voted to approve an annexation request for properties addressed 346 and 400 S. Bellwood Road (about 52 acres) submitted by property owner John Bell. Senior Planner Josh Cole told the commission the parcel lies between Merchants Green Boulevard and S. Bellwood Road, is contiguous with the city limits, and is eligible for annexation because it is inside the Urban Growth Boundary. Mr. Bell deeded 3.5 acres to the city for needed improvements on S. Bellwood Road.
Staff recommended annexation with Intermediate Business (IB) zoning to allow commercial development that aligns with surrounding IB and R‑2 uses. Commissioner Alpha Alexander moved to approve and Commissioner Ventrus Norfolk seconded; voting results were recorded as 8 yes, 0 no, 1 abstain. The commission forwarded the request to City Council.
