New county‑boards group ACCBE reports training, advocacy wins in first year

Bina Lefkowitz, president of the Association of California County Boards of Education (ACCBE), briefed trustees on ACCBE’s first ten months. She said the organization launched in January 2025 and now includes 39 county boards representing roughly 80% of California students. "Because of your commitment, 39 county boards representing 80% of all California California students have come together to build something we hope is historic," Lefkowitz said.
Lefkowitz described four goals—advocacy, partnership, trustee development and innovation—and listed accomplishments including trustee governance sessions, mentoring, an advocacy committee that reviewed bills (nine supported last year, four signed into law), and a court and community schools deep dive series. Board members thanked ACCBE for training and noted resources are posted on ACCBE’s website for trustees who miss sessions.
The presentation emphasized peer learning and a policy platform for the coming year; trustees who are ACCBE founding members said the training had been useful and suggested continued outreach to district leaders and local partners.
