Monterey Park council appoints two members to SGV COG 'SGV Forward' subcommittee on Garvey Avenue changes

Assistant City Manager Diana Garcia presented an informational item asking council to appoint two city council members to a subcommittee to engage with adjacent cities and the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments on the SGV Forward proposal. The subcommittee would review proposed Garvey Avenue changes—including bus rapid transit lanes, signal prioritization, and enhanced stops—intended to be in place ahead of the 2028 Olympics.
Councilmembers discussed possible scheduling and conflicts of interest; city staff said appointing members and an alternate was permissible and helpful for scheduling. The council nominated two members to serve as primary representatives and named an alternate so the city will be represented consistently at subcommittee meetings. The motion passed unanimously.
