North Riverside approves ordinance regulating e-bikes, scooters and other low-speed vehicles

The Village of North Riverside Board of Trustees on May 18 approved an ordinance (26-O-22) amending Title 10 of the municipal code to regulate bicycles, motorized scooters and other low-speed vehicles.
Mayor Mengoni said the ordinance is “an important step toward enhancing public safety, reducing the risk of accidents, and ensuring that residents, pedestrians, and motorists can safely share our streets and sidewalks.” The measure was introduced by Trustee Santucci and brought forward for full-board consideration; the trustees voted 6–0 to adopt the ordinance.
The board did not record substantive amendments during the meeting; trustees said the ordinance responds to growing use of these devices and aims to set clear regulatory standards. The ordinance was part of a group of measures the board approved at the meeting, which also included budget adjustments and equipment purchases.
