Shelter Island recognizes staff, celebrates student athletes and national rankings

The board presented the newly renamed Beacon of Excellence award to physical education teacher Kristin Sweeney. Director Todd Gulluscio praised Sweeney's approach and Superintendent Brian Doelger and Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Rylott predicted future administrative promise; Ms. Sweeney thanked the board, saying she is "grateful to work with the students of such a special community."
Athletics Director Todd Gulluscio reported that Amara Cajamarca Goodale and Henry Springer qualified to race in the Section XI Cross Country State Championships at Queensbury High School and that a sendoff for the pair will be held before they depart. Doelger also announced district honors: the school received its 10th consecutive School of Distinction Award, and Shelter Island was the only public school in Suffolk County to receive an AP Platinum ranking, plus a Niche.com Best High School plaque for 2025–26.
