The Shelter Island Union Free School District Board of Education on March 18 voted to prefer disciplinary charges against a non-instructional district employee and suspended that employee without pay for 30 days, effective March 19, 2026, pending a formal hearing.
The motion, made by Board member Molly Kendall and seconded by Karina Montalvo, designated Richard N. Thompson, Esq. as hearing officer and cited Civil Service Law Section 75 as the governing statute for the proceeding. The board’s resolution stated, "said employee shall be suspended without pay for thirty (30) days, pending determination of the charges." The motion carried unanimously. The transcript records the charges were filed in writing with the district clerk; the identity of the employee is noted in board records as "known to the Board" but not disclosed on the public record.
