Shelter Island voters approved the Shelter Island Public Library’s calendar-year 2026 operating budget, set at $870,760 and to be raised by taxation upon taxable property within the Shelter Island Union Free School District. The Special District Meeting opened at 10:00 a.m. Oct. 25, 2025; the District Clerk, Jacqueline Dunning, closed the polls at 4:00 p.m. and announced the result: yes 201, no 128, total 329. The proposition was declared approved.
The proposition language stated the figure was exclusive of debt service and would cover the general use, maintenance and financing of the library and its facilities. Secret paper ballots were used for the vote. Henry Fayne called the meeting to order and administered the Constitutional Oath of Office to the District Clerk and the Inspectors of Election (Jacqueline Dunning, Angela Corbett, Shirley Ferrer and Lew Corbett). The meeting was adjourned at 4:32 p.m., and the District Clerk certified the results.
