Shelter Island board adopts 2025–26 District‑Wide School Safety and COOP plan after public hearing

At a public hearing that opened at 5:02 p.m. on Aug. 25, the Shelter Island Union Free School District Board of Education unanimously adopted the district’s 2025–26 District‑Wide School Safety/Continuity of Operations Plan.
Superintendent Dr. Brian Doelger presented the plan and described it as "required by NYSED and the SAVE Law," saying it is designed to provide for the "safety, health and security of students and staff" and to allow community input. He told the board a copy of the plan is posted on the district website and noted planned safety changes and clarifications included in the update.
The board then voted to approve and adopt the plan under agenda item 4.1. The formal resolution to adopt the plan was moved and seconded and recorded as carried unanimously. Following the vote, the board proceeded to its regular business agenda.
