Town approves highway hire authority, trailer purchase and earmarks CHIP rollover for new truck

At its May 11 meeting the Town of Seward Town Board agreed that Highway Superintendent Chad Evans may proceed with hiring to fill a position before Gary Davis retires June 25, 2026 and authorized the purchase of a utility trailer not to exceed $3,000.
Superintendent Evans told the board routine seasonal road and tree work is needed, and that the plow and wing for the new truck have arrived but the truck will not be delivered until payment is secured. Board members discussed replacing a Chevy 3500 with a Ford F350 and noted about $82,000 in CHIPS rollover money could be applied to the replacement. The board later approved using the $82,000 CHIPS rollover along with the Reserve Equipment fund to buy the new truck by recorded roll call (all five members voted yes).
