Planning commission sends Markgraf variance to council; feedlot ordinance review to continue

The St. Stephen Planning Commission recommended that the Markgraf request for a variance to place an accessory building in the front of the property (1206 6th Ave SE) be forwarded to the City Council for review and a public hearing. The commission noted site constraints including a drop-off and hills affecting buildable locations and recommended that Markgraf pay half the public-hearing fee on the basis that the placement issue should have been addressed during an earlier variance process.
Planning reported that it will table review of nuisance ordinances, minimum lot sizes and chicken ordinances to focus on feedlot ordinance revisions through 2025. Commissioners received information from a county representative (Amber Mielke) and plan to meet again (including city attorney Sue Dege in January) to develop draft ordinance changes and guidance for council consideration.
