The City of Kimberly Council on July 14 approved Ordinance No. 691, amending Title 10, Chapter 10.12 to prohibit vehicles exceeding 20,000 gross vehicle weight and to prevent obstructions of city right‑of‑way signage. Council moved to pass the ordinance by title only, dispense with the second and third readings, and carried the motion on a unanimous roll call.
City/P&Z Administrator Craig Eckles described repeated problems with semi‑tractors parking in turnouts and blocking sight lines and signs near commercial areas. He told the Council the proposed text includes a practical height restriction: “If the cab height is over 7’ … it will be in violation of the ordinance,” and said the ordinance also includes a two‑hour loading/unloading window to allow deliveries while preventing long‑term parking by semis. Chief Bunderson supported the change as an enforceable step to improve safety.
The ordinance package adds Section 10.12.065 (restrictions on vehicles exceeding 20,000 GVW) and a prohibition on obstructing signage. The ordinance record notes the effective date as July 23, 2026, after publication as required by law.
