The Newaygo City Council on Aug. 12 approved acquiring Parcel 18-24-423-002 from the Newaygo County Treasurer under tax foreclosure for $730 and approved an easement agreement with Payne Avenue Owner LLC (Wendy’s Restaurant, 250 W Pine Lake Dr.) for $100 to install a city welcome sign along M-37.
City Manager Schneider displayed a map showing the parcel’s location and said city ownership could be advantageous if future infrastructure is needed. The easement was approved so the city may proceed to welcome sign bidding and construction. Schneider also presented sidewalk and pedestrian walk designs for Cooperative, Mundy, Brooks and Division streets and said easements would be needed along Division Street prior to receiving bids.
The parcel purchase motion (moved by Black, second by Walerczyk) and easement motion (moved by Walerczyk, second by Engemann) both passed by unanimous roll call. Staff will coordinate mapping, bidding for the welcome sign, and securing any necessary sidewalk easements before moving to construction.
