River Stop Saloon granted façade and 48-inch lit sign permit

The Principal Shopping District (PSD) board approved façade improvement revisions and a sign permit for River Stop Saloon at 56 W. State Road during its Aug. 14 meeting in Newaygo.
Jen Bogert, owner of River Stop Saloon, described the changes she intends to make to a permit originally approved in June. She said she would "replace the door that is the entryway to the second floor apartments, add goose neck lights over the front windows instead of awnings and add a planter box over the third set of stairs in front of the building to cover them up as they do not go anywhere." Bogert also said the new sign will be a 48-inch round, black sign with white lettering and an internally lit canister above the front door.
The approval came on a motion by Board member Fedell, seconded by Board member Parsley, and was recorded as AIF/MC (all in favor; motion carried). City Manager Jon Schneider noted that a nearby property owner, Jason Sovinski of 30 W. State Road (Sportsman Bar), indicated he would submit a façade application at a future meeting after interior work is finished.
The board did not attach additional conditions in the meeting minutes. The permit approval and Bogert’s description of the sign and façade changes conclude the recorded PSD action on this storefront for Aug. 14.
