Council to pursue ORV connector route approvals for M-37 and M-82 bridges

The council voted to pursue approvals for off-road vehicle (ORV) connector routes that would use the M-37 bridge over the Muskegon River and the M-82 bridge over Penoyer Creek.
The action followed a TIFA resolution requesting council support. City Manager Schneider explained that either the Department of Natural Resources or a local unit of government can apply and that the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) makes the final decision on connector approvals. Schneider identified Officer Rood and TIFA Chair Heinzman as the local champions for the project. The motion to pursue the ORV connector route was moved by Council Member DeVries and seconded by Council Member Golliver and adopted unanimously.
Council discussion and the minutes place this action at the direction/pursuit stage; no construction, design approvals, or MDOT decisions were recorded at this meeting. Next steps are expected to include an application to the appropriate agency and coordination with MDOT.
