The Mineral Point Unified School District policy committee met April 9, 2025, and recommended the full school board adopt several policy updates identified in a WASB “quick check.” The committee reviewed three high-priority items — Policy 133 (Filling Board Vacancies), Policy 681.1 (Capitalization and Depreciation) and Rule 763 (School Meal Account Charges and Collections) — and voted 3–0 in favor of bringing the changes forward to the board.
Committee members said the review was prompted both by federal and state changes and by an administrative review from DPI. The committee noted that its auditors, Johnson and Block, support increasing the district’s capitalization threshold to meet federal guidance. The committee also recommended updating language so that board-vacancy appointments are made by open voice or roll-call vote, since a written, signed ballot is no longer an allowable option.
The committee identified a larger group of roughly 90 policies from the WASB report that will be addressed in subsequent rounds. It prioritized nine items — including programs for English language learners, Section 504 plans, and promotion and retention rules — for the next meeting cycle and set May 7, 2025, as the date to review proposed edits before recommending a first reading to the full board.
Separately, the DPI administrative review highlighted a mismatch between the district’s written meal-charge policy and on-the-ground practice. The committee recommended aligning Rule 763 with current practice, and assigned member Mitch Wainwright to work with nurse Lindsey on updates to the district’s Wellness Policy. The meeting opened at 7:00 p.m. and adjourned at 7:43 p.m.
