The Rockport School Committee voted May 7 to adopt an updated district policy manual, approving a second read of Section J (student policies) and then taking final approval for sections A through L effective July 1, 2025.
"This is the final approval of the updated the entire updated policy book," Chair Kathy Riley said when seeking the vote. Committee members described the update as the product of two years of review and said the district will host the official manual on the Massachusetts Association of School Committees (MASC) server with accessible links from the Rockport website.
Why it matters: Committee members called the overhaul long overdue and said the new approach will streamline future edits, provide predictable hyperlinks to handbooks, and reduce the ad hoc piecemeal updates of prior years. The committee recorded voice votes for the motions and rescinded prior policy manual versions as part of the approval.
