Board approves AutoZone site plan on Route 104 with condition to confirm drainage maintenance

The Wayne County Planning Board voted to approve a final site plan for an AutoZone store on Route 104 in the Town of Ontario, contingent on clear arrangements for long-term maintenance of the stormwater system. Paul McCarthy, representing AutoZone, said the project will remove and backfill an older retention pond and install an updated drainage system using plastic chamber filtration to meet SWPPP/DEC requirements. "The new proposed system should help maintain the drainage for the entire area; by doubling the size of the 4-bay chamber system they will remain compliant with the DEC," McCarthy said.
Board members pressed on who would enforce maintenance and asked that the Town require verification of twice-yearly maintenance. Mr. Burns and Mr. Hutteman recommended that maintenance remain the property owner's responsibility but be verified by the Town and the DEC; Mr. Guthrie moved to approve the plan with that comment and Mr. Krolak seconded. The recorded vote was 11 ayes, 0 nays with Mr. Conklin abstaining.
