Kelly Brown, introduced to the board as the Jackson County Economic Alliance director, described a package of recent awards and projects—including a childcare grant, downtown assessment grants for Bellevue and Maquoketa, a certified-site effort for the Highway 61 Industrial Park and a $15,000 DRA grant to support a workforce 'boost' effort. Brown said a team of master’s students will take on a yearlong capstone project to interview businesses and local governments and help identify short-term and long-term priorities; she asked the county to serve as fiscal sponsor to accept Community Foundation funding. "Just you're just a fiscal agent, so I'm not asking a dime from you," Brown said as she described the arrangement.
Board members moved and seconded the resolution and voted "aye"; Chair Don Swinker confirmed the motion carried and told Brown the board would "take care of it."
