Board approves budget amendment to cover jail, server and equipment costs

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors on Sept. 9 approved a budget amendment to cover several county capital and grant-funded expenses. The board adopted Resolution No. 1141-09-09-2025 after a public hearing and a brief staff presentation.

Shelley, county staff who summarized the amendment during the hearing, said the changes include budgeting $70,000 for a replacement server in the auditor's office, $30,600 for a sanitation vehicle, $15,000 to cover drill equipment for soil sampling, an additional $104,684 from the general fund for Stronghold jail construction, a final Ashley Henson grant payment of $35,495 and $13,003 for delayed RCTP expenses. "Mostly, we're amending for a replacement vehicle for sanitation and for additional cost for the drill equipment for sanitation," Shelley said during the hearing. The board closed the public hearing, moved to adopt the resolution and the chair announced the motion carried.

The auditor's office will certify the record to the state as required by statute and the chair and auditor were authorized to sign the record of hearing. The board heard no public opposition during the hearing and members discussed only minor line-item questions and reimbursements for grant-funded work. The amendment will allow the county to pay the delayed RCTP expense this fiscal year and finalize the Stronghold construction payment.
