Student representative Lawson outlines mentorship initiative, plans gap year in Nepal

At the May 21 meeting, student representative Lawson updated the Rockport School Committee on end-of-year activities and a student-led mentorship initiative aimed at increasing student leadership.
Lawson described senior ceremonies, an internship fair, performance events at the Shane Liu Performing Arts Center and upcoming dates including 8th-grade recognition on June 11 and incoming 6th-grade orientation on June 3. On student programming, Lawson said the mentorship initiative, Project Live Life Large, pairs high-school students with middle-school peers for leadership and support during assemblies and student activities. "We're basically getting all the kids outside to kind of all hang out," Lawson said of an end-of-year assembly scheduled May 27.
Lawson also announced personal plans. "I'm gonna be going to Nepal for 3 months on a cultural immersive program," Lawson said, describing a gap-year program that includes homestays and cultural study. Lawson said they plan to return and pursue internships with government-oriented organizations and continue engagement with the student-advisory committee until graduation.
Committee members thanked Lawson and emphasized the value of consistent student representation at committee meetings.
