District progress report shows reading gains but jump in chronic absenteeism tied to strike

Seifer highlighted an 18.4% increase in iReady reading diagnostic proficiency between fall and spring, noting that the district rose from 21.6% at the start of the year to 40% at the last administration.
Seifer also presented the districts first‑year rollout of the DIBELS early reading screener, reporting nearly a 10% increase from fall to spring and an ending rate of 59% of students meeting the benchmark in the first year of implementation. At the same time, Seifer said chronic absenteeism is projected to increase by about 7 percentage points largely because of a strike earlier in the year; staff had compared March 7 attendance year‑over‑year to identify the impact.
Trustees asked for concrete baseline numbers and substantive context; Seifer responded with the diagnostic percentages and said the DPR is updated rapidly online so the public can review underlying data. The presentation included additional metrics (safety, connectedness, athletics participation and post‑writing assessments) that district staff will continue to publish and analyze.
