Start-of-school preview: Natomas Unified reports 10,865 enrollment, dozens of vacancies and new visitor check-in system

District leaders told the board they are preparing for the new school year with enrollment efforts, staffing pushes, immunization clinics and safety updates.
"On our, 2025 census day, we were at 10,865 students," presenter David Rodriguez said while walking trustees through enrollment, preschool applications (129) and three upcoming enrollment nights at the district Welcome Center (July 28, Aug. 4 and Aug. 10).
Rodriguez reported 287 students needed updated immunization records as of July 21 and that the district would offer immunization clinics, including a free clinic at the back-to-school fair on Aug. 1. He described staffing needs: "as of today, we have 23 certificated vacancies with 10 of those positions that are needed to start the school year in the classroom," and solicited credentialed applicants.
Rodriguez also highlighted summer facilities projects (gym floors, pool renovation, HVAC work), a new districtwide visitor check-in kiosk (Raptor) that requires valid photo ID for visitors, and early-literacy expansions. The district reiterated Aug. 13 as the first day of school for most sites and noted several staggered start dates for charters and grade bands.
Trustees and staff discussed pick-up/drop-off procedures, accommodations for the first two days when parents may walk younger students to class, and continued rollout of the LEAP Academy and other enrichment programs.
