That information has not been made public to me." Joanna Davis and other commenters likewise asked for an independent review or published evaluation metrics before the board acted.
Supporters and several trustees defended the board's confidential evaluation process. Board President Grant explained state law requires closed-session personnel evaluations for the superintendent (one employee) and said the board's accountability to the public includes campaign promises and other public-facing mechanisms. Trustees also cited progress such as an early literacy initiative, special education leadership changes, and fiscal actions including bond refinancing. President Grant said the extension was not open-ended and that the superintendent understands there are performance expectations.
After trustee remarks and a roll-call motion to approve the contract amendment, the board recorded a unanimous 5-0 vote in favor of the extension. Several speakers in the public record said they would prefer transparency and clear performance benchmarks attached to any extension.
