Executive Director Lizette Behares presented the district's summer 2026 offerings: LEAP Academy for TK–5 beginning June 4 (six weeks, sites at model schools including Banning Creek, H. Allen Heights and Whitter Ranch), middle-school sessions at Natomas Middle School, high-school credit recovery at Inderkum, Natomas High and Leeward Green Academy, and ESY special-education programming at Natomas High and Two Rivers.
Behares told trustees that registration prioritizes tier-1 students identified through district diagnostics (DIBELS, i-Ready, CAST) and teacher recommendations; she said applications remain open and reported that "as of last week of, April 7, we've received 768 applications for students to participate in program." Trustees asked about capacity and Behares said planners are "aiming for 200 per school site" for the big program and that transportation will be provided from home schools to sites.
Trustees asked for clarification on ESY eligibility (IEP requirement) and targeted outreach; Behares said tier 1 and teacher referrals are used for priority registration and that the program will try to reach students who need targeted intervention.
No vote was required at this informational presentation; staff said application numbers and site capacities could fluctuate during the summer registration period.
