Natomas Unified board expresses sorrow, outlines supports after Natomas High tragedy

Trustees offered condolences and urged concrete support. Trustee Mora recommended that community members commit to being present in young people's lives, suggesting mentoring or regular support. Trustee Hardin and Trustee Mehta echoed trustees' sympathy and noted the community's resilience.
During public comment, Jennifer Souza, a teacher and parent, praised the district's response and named specific strengths: "The systems that have been put in place worked really well," she said, commending staff coordination and steady leadership.
The board did not take new formal action on safety policy at the meeting; Superintendent Castillo said the district is conducting a thorough review of safety protocols and that counseling and other supports remain available at Natomas High for as long as needed.
