Spencer County fiscal court approved a service agreement to obtain national background checks for county employees after staff reported a state law change requiring national checks.
A staff presenter explained that Kentucky changed requirements and the county must now obtain national checks in addition to the existing AOC screenings. “We we cannot do them... the state has changed the statute to now it's every two years, and it has to be in a national,” staff said while describing available vendor pricing (roughly $29 for biannual checks and $34 for full new‑hire screens). The court voted to enter the service agreement with Viewpoint Scribe to satisfy the new requirement.
The vote authorized county staff to execute the service agreement and direct the vendor to begin checks as needed. Commissioners indicated they expect the treasurer and HR staff to manage line‑item funding once the contract is in place.
