The Rockwall ISD Board of Trustees on Aug. 18 approved a resolution supporting the Rockwall Central Appraisal District's (RCAD) plan to renovate approximately 7,500 square feet of second-floor office space at 841 Justin Road in Rockwall. Minutes record that RCAD's Board of Directors determined the renovation is necessary due to county growth and estimated completion costs will not exceed $500,000.
The board's resolution cites Texas Tax Code §6.051 as authority for appraisal districts to purchase, lease, construct or renovate property with taxing-unit approval. Trustees noted that RCAD indicated the project would be funded from RCAD resources and would not require an impact on current or future district budgets. Stan Britton moved approval and Dr. Sherry Packer seconded; the motion passed 7-0.
The approval is a statement of support from Rockwall ISD as one of RCAD's taxing units and does not itself obligate district funds according to the minutes.
