Craig Namyst of Market & Johnson reported to the Operations Committee on April 9 that subcontractor bids for the planned science-lab remodel came in lower than the original project estimate. The initial estimate used for planning was $533,000; after bid openings through March 4, the total fell to $478,000.
Namyst identified three line items that could reduce the final cost further: a $3,500 placeholder for final cleaning (which the district’s summer maintenance crew might perform), a $19,000 construction contingency to cover unknowns, and a $12,300 quote for chemistry-room tables sourced from Wynn O. Jones that could be rebid with other furniture suppliers. HSR supplied drawings for the remodel that will be available at the upcoming board meeting. The Operations Committee indicated support in principle to proceed pending firm bids and pricing details to present to the full board.
