At the start of its Oct. 1 meeting the Rio Vista City Council proclaimed October 2024 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and heard from SafeQuest Solano representatives about services and local needs. Randy Zawadeh, the organization's executive director, framed intimate‑partner violence as a community health and safety issue and urged residents and officials to support survivor‑centered programs.
"In our county, reports show that 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner violence," Zawadeh said during the presentation. SafeQuest program director Corinne DeSinnett described services available to county residents, including a 24‑hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter, legal advocacy, peer counseling, safety planning and a new financial counseling program. Staff said services are free and available in multiple languages and encouraged residents to take informational brochures left in the hall.
Council members thanked the presenters and agreed to help amplify resources via city communications. No council action beyond the proclamation was required.
