Board approves change order for new 1,000,000-gallon water tower; completion moved to April 2026

Public Works Director Shelley Daniel updated the board on the water-tower construction schedule and recommended approval of change order No. 1 to the Caldwell Tanks contract. Daniel said the city issued the notice to proceed on July 1, 2024; long material lead times prompted staff to delay winter concrete pours in favor of spring work to protect concrete quality. She reported the tank will be in service by Dec. 1, 2025, and final completion is now projected for April 29, 2026 to allow removal of the old tower in spring.
Daniel said the scheduling change reduced winter-related risks, produced some cost savings compared with the original contract for winter work, and resulted in a budget credit (staff indicated approximately $4,001.54). The board moved, seconded and approved the resolution; the motion passed unanimously. Staff will coordinate the revised schedule and removal of the old tower with Caldwell Tanks and the city’s water department.
